Chapel Bridge

Chapel Bridge crosses the Reuss River in a long wooden line. Its covered walkway has dark beams, old roof panels, and views of Lucerne's painted facades. Beside it, the stone Water Tower gives the riverfront a firm medieval shape.

Built in the 14th century, it is one of Europe's oldest covered wooden bridges. Visitors love the close view of the city, the river, and the Alpine light. After the 1993 fire, its careful restoration made it feel even more human.

Lion Monument

The Lion Monument is carved into a sandstone cliff above a quiet pool. A wounded lion rests inside the rock, with a shield beneath its paw. The setting feels still, shaded, and deliberate, away from Lucerne's brighter lakefront rhythm.

It honors Swiss Guards who died during the French Revolution in 1792. Visitors remember its scale, restraint, and the sorrow held in the lion's face. Few monuments make grief feel this calm, this human, and this close.
