Mljet National Park

Mljet National Park covers the green western end of Mljet island. Pine and oak woods slope toward two calm saltwater lakes. The water shifts from deep blue to clear turquoise near the shore. Paths feel quiet, with cicadas, warm stone, and the smell of resin.

Saint Mary's Island

Saint Mary's Island sits in the middle of Veliko Jezero, a saltwater lake inside Mljet National Park. The water is a deep, clear green, ringed by dense Mediterranean pine forest. A short boat ride from the shore brings you to this small, quiet island. The air smells of pine resin and salt.

A 12th-century Benedictine monastery anchors the island, still standing after nearly 900 years. Few places in Europe place an ancient monastery inside a lake, inside an island.
