Römerberg

Römerberg is Frankfurt’s old civic stage, framed by stepped gables and the restored timber facades of the Ostzeile. The square feels formal at first, then human in scale, with stone paving, market edges, and the Römer town hall watching over it.

Its power comes from contrast. Much of the old center was rebuilt after wartime destruction, yet the square still carries Frankfurt’s public memory with unusual clarity. Visitors come for the postcard view, but stay for the feeling of a city carefully holding its past in the open.

Frankfurt Cathedral

Frankfurt Cathedral rises in dark red sandstone above the old town. Its Gothic tower feels severe, civic, and quietly powerful. Inside, high vaults, stained glass, and worn stone create a sober calm.
This was the ceremonial heart of the Holy Roman Empire. Kings were elected here, and emperors were crowned within its walls. Visitors come for that rare mix of scale, history, and restraint. It leaves you with the weight of a city that remembers itself.
