Römerberg is Frankfurt’s old civic stage, framed by stepped gables and the restored timber facades of the Ostzeile. The square feels formal at first, then human in scale, with stone paving, market edges, and the Römer town hall watching over it.

Its power comes from contrast. Much of the old center was rebuilt after wartime destruction, yet the square still carries Frankfurt’s public memory with unusual clarity. Visitors come for the postcard view, but stay for the feeling of a city carefully holding its past in the open.
